12AX7LPS - Sovtek

The 12AX7 "Long Plate Special" is an entirely new 12AX7 design from Sovtek, with enhanced full bodied and well balanced sound quality. It has high gain (100mu) and smooth presentation. When overdriven it offers crunchy fizz.

This 12AX7LPS dual triode preamp tube has very large ribbed plates and great sound reproduction. Smooth and balanced in terms of bass, mids and treble response. However the large plates make them more prone to microphonics and this can become problematic in combo amps if run at high volume where they will be subjected to lots of vibration. It is possibly the best Sovtek 12AX7 available, with very good gain and low noise.

These tubes have a filament construction that is almost completely encased in the plate structure. Due to this, they often don't "light up" when working properly. This is normal for this tube.
